Arkansas Suicide Hotline- Dial 988
Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death for all Americans. 48,344 people were lost to suicide in 2018 (the last year for which we have current figures); 554 of those were in Arkansas. Of those, 30 were youths under 20! Focusing on suicide prevention is especially important now, during the COVID-19 pandemic, to remain connected to each other and to be aware of the signs of suicide risk and how to respond. During times of increased social distancing, people can still maintain social connections and care for their mental health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) features a Suicide Prevention Strategic Plan, including a Vision, Mission and Priorities, plus a Technical Packet on Preventing Suicide.
